The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently published an update of its RoHS-type regulation. The new regulation, Management Methods for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products will replace Marking Requirements for Control of Pollution Caused by Electronic Information Products on July 1, 2016.
The change in the title is one of the significant changes in the regulation, that of the shift in scope from “electronic information products,” to “electronic and electrical products,” which greatly expands the scope. Unless the forthcoming frequently asked questions (FAQs) further clarify the scope, it could be quite broad and could encompass products not yet subject to EU RoHS.
The regulation includes provisions for future restriction of substance through a “compliance management catalogue” and a “conformity assessment mechanism.”
